Dr Rebecca Keeley, MBBS FRACGP

Dr. Oliver Florica, MD FRACS, is a highly respected Australian surgeon with a rich international background. He has been honored as an Alumni Ambassador by Carol Davila University.

I graduated from Gheorghe Lazar College in Bucharest in 1984 and earned my medical degree at Carol Davila University in 1990, the same institution where Nicolae Paulescu discovered insulin, and where Nobel laureate George Palade and Aurel Babes developed the test for cervical cancer, studied.

After completing an internship in Romania, I trained in various surgical specialties in South Africa before relocating to Australia, where I completed my accredited surgical training in 2002.

Over the course of my career, I have reached significant milestones, including performing a life-saving emergency surgery on the President of Nauru in 2003, pioneering minimally invasive surgical techniques, and becoming one of the first general surgeons in Australia to use the Da Vinci robot for hernia repairs. I have maintained an exemplary professional record, with no reported deaths or lawsuits over more than 20 years of practice.

Outside of medicine, I have a strong passion for aviation, owning several aircraft and completing a remarkable trans-Pacific flight in a single-engine plane. My work has been recognized by my patients, and I was nominated for Australian of the Year in 2019.
